Did everyone in class get a chance to try skype this week?

With Skype you can make free calls over the internet to other people on Skype for as long as you like, to wherever you like. It is free to download.

Hi,
I downloaded Skype to my home computer. Unfortunately, it slowed down my computer and it hasn’t been right every since. I am using my kids computer right now. I am hoping we can rectify the problem soon! Anyway, I did try to Skype with Laura. She sent me and message and I responded but that was about it. Without a microphone or a webcam Skyping just isn’t the same. I am hoping to try Skyping again very soon. I have worked on my class wiki and I shared it with my students. They were really excited! Mike helped me put pictures of my students on the page using Rock You. They love seeing themselves!

I forgot to comment on how I would use Skype in the classroom…
I think it would be a great tool to use to communicate with other classrooms in the United States and around the world who may be studying the same topics/subject matter. Students could share information and learn from one another. I would also like to Skype other teachers to share information and lesson ideas. It is definitely a useful tool!!!!

I Skyped with Mike this week, and it was a success! I think it would be a great tool to use in the classroom if we had a “pen pal” class. For example, a fourth grade classroom could Skype with a classroom in another state that they are studying in Social Studies. I also linked our class Pi Day song to my wiki page, and one of my 5th grade students said she was going to show her aunt in Maryland who is also a 5th grade teacher. Her aunt wants to use the song with her class! So I was thinking that we could use Skype to perform the song for her class (witha webcam of course) if they too used Skype.
Finally got Skype up and running. I Skyped with Laura the other night. My kids were fascinated that a voice was coming out of the computer! I am going to look this weekend for an inexpensive web cam. Has anyone found one for a good price? I am hoping to Skype with a friend in Austria soon. My class recorded a song today to make into a podcast. Then I will put it on my web page. I watched an instructional podcast video on You Tube. It was pretty informative. Next week the kids are going to start making mini-documentaries using Movie Maker with the informaton they researched about their ocean animal. I am going to create one first to model for them. This is the first time I’ve ever used Movie Maker. The excitement never ends!
